Dan Poynor of the Koi Club of San Diego says starting a pond will give Escondido residents “instant waterfront property” and bring the beauty of Koi to their backyards.
“We believe there are many people in Escondido who would love to have a Koi pond and waterfall — instant water front property — but don’t know how to do it,” said Mike Poynor, a San Diego Attorney and lover of the colorful fish.
“Our Koi Club can help,” he said. “There is nothing more beautiful and serene than spending time next to a Koi pond. It’s a break from the busy noise and chatter of daily life.”
Here’s your chance: More than 300 Koi will be on display in competition, from 6 inches to 3 feet long at the 29th Annual Koi Show March 5-6 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds Activity Center.
You can “learn how to build your own backyard Koi pond and waterfall, turning your backyard into a tropical paradise,” Poynor said.
Free admission. The Activity Center is next to the Spring Home/ Garden Show. Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Fairground parking is $10.
