Kirsten Lauge Gunn, longtime Escondido and San Marcos resident, passed away in her sleep, at home, June 2, 2020. She lived a wonderful 94 years.
Mrs. Gunn was born in Copenhagen, Denmark to Lauge and Gertrude Christensen. After college she travelled to America with her father on a business trip, and fell in love with California. She later emigrated and became a citizen of the United States. Kirsten (Kissa) then met and married the love of her life, Norman C. Gunn in 1953, and the next year saw the birth of their son Douglas. Eight years later the Gunn family adopted Charles, and adopted Tina two years later to complete the family.
Everyone who met Mrs. Gunn was impressed by her sweet and caring nature and Old World manners. She championed family and home. Her loving spirit cared for and comforted all her children, grandchildren and those close to her. She had a forgiving heart and truly lived the Golden Rule. She was proud of her Danish heritage and passed that feeling on to her kids, teaching them the Danish holidays, customs, and recipes passed down to her from her parents. One of her favorite things to do was visit the Danish community of Solvang with her family, especially around Christmas where the festivities reminded her of home.
She is survived by her sons Douglas, Charles and his wife Mary Pat, her daughter Tina, and her grandchildren Forest, Brook, Matthew and Charles. Many relatives in Denmark, dozens of nieces and nephews, grandnieces and nephews, and great grandnieces and nephews, all celebrated her life as well.
By God’s grace, she has peacefully transitioned home, to the joy of her late husband Norman and yet lives on in our hearts and memories. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten by all who knew her.
