Holy Week at First Congregational Escondido

In front of the sanctuary at First Congregational Church Escondido there is a path that leads to a cross that bears a crown of thorns.  Along the path are candles to remind us to follow the light of Christ as we continue our Lenten journey.  The crown of thorns will be replaced with a rose on Easter Sunday at the end of the journey.

Palm Sunday, March 25, 10 a.m. worship will include a children’s procession with palm branches and special music.  Two of the congregation’s young men will be confirmed since they have completed their studies with Pastor Holgie Choi.  A special fellowship time after worship will celebrate their confirmation.

Maundy Thursday, March 29, there will be soup supper and foot washing service in Fellowship Hall.  This begins at 6 p.m.  Tables will be set in the shape of a cross and, after the simple supper of soup and bread, Pastor Holgie will lead a service remembering Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples before his betrayal, suffering, and death.  The foot washing recalls Jesus washing the feet of his disciples that night giving his followers the example to serve one another.

Easter Service, April 1, will include a lot of special music with guest musicians and the resounding joy of Christ’s resurrection.  There will be an Easter egg hunt for the children after worship and a special fellowship time.  Whoever you are and wherever you are on life’s journey, you are welcome to join the group at 1800 North Broadway, Escondido.
