Harold D. Williams of Escondido passed away peacefully on September 6, 2015 after a brief illness. Harold was able to celebrate his 86th birthday with his family and friends.
He was born in Beatrice, Nebraska, on August 16, 1929 and grew up in various cities and farms in Nebraska. He enlisted in the Navy in 1949 and proudly served for 28 years before retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. While stationed at NAS Miramar, he was attached to Fighter Squadrons VF-124 and VF- 211.
While stationed in Kingsville, Texas, in the mid-fifties, Harold met and married Maria Guadalupe Gonzalez, his wife of 38 years. They settled in Escondido in 1961 and, while raising their two sons, enjoyed being in various bowling leagues.
They were regular attendees of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Church of the Resurrection. After retirement, Harold obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in History from San Diego State University and was an avid traveler, genealogical researcher and stamp collector.
He spent years volunteering at the Genealogy Department of the Carlsbad Library. He was also a longtime donor to the American Blood Bank.
Harold is survived by his sons, Ronald and Kenneth, grandson Cody (Kristen) and granddaughters, Katie (Dan) and Dominique, and great- grandsons, Brody and Ethan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Louise; his sister, Shirley, and by his beloved wife, Maria (Tia Lupe) whom he missed very much.
Harold’s family and friends will miss very much his humor, knowledge and positive outlook on life. Friends are invited to attend a celebratory Mass on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Resurrection, Escondido. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation.
