The 413 Project Theater Co. will open Oscar Wilde’s classic play “The Importance of Being Earnest” on March 8, at The Grand Tea Room in Escondido.

Wilde’s classic story revolves around one of the most ingenious, and hilarious, cases of mistaken identity ever put into a play. In turn of the century London two bachelors weave a tangled tale of comedic love and romance. The reliable Jack Worthing has wooed worldly Gwendolen Fairfax under the name Ernest, while the adorable dandy Algernon Moncrieff has also posed as Ernest to win the heart of young Cecily Cardew. When all four lovers accidently arrive together at Jack’s country home the gallants must grapple with the riotous consequences of their amorous deceptions.

The 413 production features a full cast of professional San Diego actors, beautiful costumes, and an immersive high tea dining experience. All general admissions will include the Grand Tea Room’s award-winning English high-tea meal, which includes champagne, three tea sandwiches, salad, soup and a scone with clotted cream and jam, and of course, tea.

All performances will be at The Grand Tea Room, located in the historic downtown Escondido in a building built over 100 years ago (the original hospital in Escondido).  Admission is $65.00-$68.00. Shows will run March 8–March 25, with performances on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays at 7 p.m., and Sundays at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
