Springtime in San Diego County means the wildflowers are blooming, kids are dreaming about summer vacation, our roads are about to be inundated with ‘Zonies, and it’s time for the Grand Avenue Festival in historic downtown Escondido! Happening on Sunday, May 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. it is getting so close you can almost smell the kettle corn.
This time around, like in October, the new layout design places the street vendor booths along the center of Grand Avenue, allowing the storefronts of all the vibrant downtown businesses to be easily seen and accessed by attendees. Also making a return from October are several other exciting activities such as the Creative Kids Corner at Jupiter & Grand, Art in the Garden at Heritage Garden, and Dogs on the Lawn at Orange & Grand on the Chase Lawn.
That’s right, bring your furry, four-legged friend to the Chase Lawn Stage in the morning (10 a.m.–11a.m.) and win some fantastic prizes provided by PetSmart Escondido. Events will include Best Trick, Best Costume, and Dog/Owner Look-A-Like contests. Afterwards you can hang around and talk to several animal rescue organizations, then see an interactive demonstration from the Escondido Police K-9 Unit, and Wonder Dog Training!
Other staples such as the Jaycees Pancake Breakfast, hundreds of arts and craft vendors, local dance and musical entertainment, and more food than you can imagine will all be available to enjoy. Oh, and people watching…you can’t forget the people watching!
So put it on your calendar, tell your friends, get your dog ready, and make plans to spend a special day in Escondido on Sunday, May 19!
