Graffiti eradication program earns awards


Selected from over 300,000 eligible candidates, the City of Escondido received the Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) award from ESRI, the global leader in location intelligence, for its innovative application of mapping and analytics technology for the city’s Graffiti Eradication Program.

ESRI, which gave the award, is the “builder” of ArcGIS, the world’s most powerful mapping & spatial analytics software.

The City also received a 2020 Helen Putnam Award for Excellence from the League of California Cities for the graffiti program. According to the city, “This program has effectively eradicated graffiti in Escondido by using the latest technology, citizen input, and conscientious work; all combined to benefit our community. Multiple departments and employees work together to achieve this effort and this statewide recognition.”

In addition, the City has transformed its operations and internal management by adopting the Cityworks platform and using it in nearly every department from Public Works to Utilities. The

 City’s use of the platform and demonstrated success won the Information Systems team the Excellence in Enterprise Practice Award at the Cityworks Conference in December 2019.
