Fundraiser will benefit victim of DUI

A GoFundMe page has been set up to benefit the family of an Escondido man, Octavio Escatel, 38, who was struck and killed June 17 by an alleged DUI driver. The victim was the father of three children, ages 9, 12 and 16.
According to the California Highway Patrol report Escatel had stopped to help the driver of a Jeep to push his stalled vehicle off Hwy 78 near Broadway when he and the man he was assisting were struck by a Toyota Rav4 driven by a 17-year-old. The Good Samaritan was killed at the scene while the man he was helping suffered head trauma.
The teen driver was arrested at the scene for suspicion of DUI.
