Friday/Saturday High School Scoreboard

Calvin Christian 51 – Borrego Springs 6 – The Crusaders continue to roll as they run their record to a perfect 4-0. A huge 44-point first half showcases CC’s dominance. The offense features a myriad of key contributors including quarterback Matt Lafler, who tosses a pair of TD passes and runs for another. Daniel Esguerra paces the ground game with 80 yards and a rushing score. Productive sophomore back Wesley Salzman tallies twice while Mason Crouch and receiver Noah Brouwer also find the end zone. Defensively, Hus Li leads the way with 9 total tackles while Lafler registers 8, including 5 of the solo variety. Arthur Torres also lends a hand with an interception.

Bishop’s 49 – Classical 0 – The Caimans see their record fall to 2-3 as they are shutout on the road. Bishop’s remains undefeated as it seizes a 21-0 first-quarter lead and then cruises from there.

Rancho Buena Vista 42 – Escondido 38 – The Cougars (2-3) gallantly rally with 21 points in the final quarter but come up just short. QB Kellen McCoy was at his pitching best, throwing for three scores to Miguel Rocha, Quinton Gaudet and Bryan Jackson. McCoy also tallies on a keeper while Jarrod Boersma’s fumble recovery TD is a part of Esco’s furious comeback attempt.

Francis Parker 23 – Escondido Charter 21 – Ryan Sanborn’s fourth-quarter, 36- yard field goal spells the difference. White Tiger QB James Frazier and standout receiver Jake Zimmerman shine on 80 and 29-yard touchdown connections. Frazier also keeps for a score. Unable to make a 13-6 halftime margin stand up, EC slips to 1-4 on the year.

El Cajon Valley 44 – Orange Glen 28 – The Patriots (2-3) hang tough and go to the fourth quarter tied at 28. But then the highly-regarded Braves (5-0) score 16 unanswered points to secure the win. As usual, the Pat offense produces some big numbers. Signal caller Blaine Bailey puts his arm to good use, throwing for 296 yards and 4 scores, 3 of which are hauled in by touchdown-machine Malachi Russell (8 receptions, 158 yards). Receivers Billy Mercado and Brandon Montes are also definite factors as they combine for 14 catches, 128 yards and a score. On the defense, Russell is kept busy while making 8 solo tackles. Edward Gutierrez and Dereck Rojas make their presence felt with 7 stops apiece.

San Pasqual 24 – Fallbrook 10 – The Golden Eagles win their league opener and up their overall record to 3-2. Short plunges are the order of the day as fullback Spencer Pugh powers in from the 4-yard line as well as the 1. Saud Carrillo also finds paydirt from close range.

San Pasqual Academy – After defeating Calvary Christian Academy on 9-16, the Dragons were idle last week. They host their third straight home game this upcoming Friday against Ocean View Christian.
