Calvin Christian 69 – California Lutheran 21-The Crusaders (2-0) snow the C-Hawks under with an avalanche of points including 48 after intermission. The CC backfield runs wild as four players combine for a total of nine touchdowns. Daniel Esquerra leads the way with 136 rushing yards and a brace of TDs. Not to be outdone, sophomore Wesley Salzman adds 121 more yards of real estate and three tallies. Evan Senti and Mason Crouch also get in on the act with two trips apiece to paydirt.
Classical Academy 31 – Calipatria 8 – The Caimans get off the snide as they secure their first win of the season after a pair of setbacks. Ty Patterson scores twice and rushes for 109 yards while Trevor Crist registers nine total tackles, four of which result in losses. Crist also tacks on a sack.
La Costa Canyon 40 – Escondido 14 – The visitors race to a 26-0 third quarter lead and never look back. LCC’s junior quarterback Jake Neufeld lives large, throwing for three scores and running for another. For the Cougars (1-2), Kevin Rodriguez tallies from a yard out before Kellen McCoy hooks up with Miguel Rocha on a 17- yard TD toss.
Coronado 42 – Escondido Charter 0 – A 28-point second quarter for the Islanders blows things open. Coronado’s Dan Komorowski finds paydirt on long runs of 70 and 33 yards while rushing for a total of 112. The White Tigers (1-2) drop their second straight.
Orange Glen 61 – Francis Parker 24 – For the second time in three games, the Patriot offense lights up the scoreboard during a lopsided win. Back Tyrone Hickson explodes for 270 yards rushing and four TDs. QB Blaine Bailey unlimbered his arm to the tune of 245 yards and a trio of scoring pitches. And as usual, wideout Malachi Russell was a factor with seven catches, good for 113 yards and a score. On defense, Jose Meza shines with four tackles and three passes defensed.
Ramona 35 – San Pasqual 14 – A splendid 30-yard jaunt by QB Nick Hurst early in the third quarter helps level the count at 14 all. But then the Bulldogs score the contest’s final 21 points to pull away. Hurst also tallies on a 3-yard keeper for the Golden Eagles (1-2).
