Free Art Lesson October 13 at CCAE

Artist Philip Matzigkeit will lead a class in hat-making using only newspaper, construction paper, and found materials.

The Education Department at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido is hosting another free 2nd Saturday art lesson on Saturday, October 13 from 10 a.m.-12:15 p.m. in Education Studio 2.

Join Public Address artist, Philip Matzigkeit, for Second Saturday where he will lead a class in hat-making using only newspaper, construction paper, and found materials.

Hats and headgear have been used all over the world to symbolize one’s role or status, for fashion, or for safety. The construction of hats and costumes is an art all its own, and the design of these items lets participants disguise or reveal parts of their personalities.

Learn the joy of creating something “out of nothing” with newspaper, magazines, tape, and found craft supplies!

This art lesson requires loose, old, or broken materials. Items like beads, glass, feathers, shells (i.e. “stuff”) will be used to create your hat. The Center asks that if you have materials available for use or donation that you bring them with you to this lesson.

There are two 1 hour lessons at 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.

2nd Saturday art lessons are a FREE event with no ticketing or reserved seating. Please plan on arriving 10 minutes early to grab a spot as seating is extremely limited.
