It is often said that wine and chocolates (and roses, of course) go together, especially for Valentine’s Day. But what about a wine that tastes like chocolate?
We got that idea from our go-to-wine maven, Cassandra Schaeg of Sip, Wine and Beer in Escondido, the city’s wine tasting headquarters.
She introduced us to The Chocolate Shop wine, a taste treat made with red wine and flavored with chocolate and cocoa powder. While I can personally attest that the wine and chocolate flavors are out of this world, I can only imagine what you might serve the wine with when you uncork it with your sweetheart.
Cassandra suggested: “How about chocolate and strawberries?” Chocolate Shop retails for $24 and is a lot more original than roses. On second thought, better make that roses AND Chocolate Shop.
On Saturday, February 11, join SIP for their Valentine’s Soiree from 6-10 p.m. The event will include wine and cheese from the “That’s What Cheese Said,” mobile food truck.
But if you want to do something special for Valentine’s Day,on Tuesday the 14th visit Sip for their “Love to Sip” event. Besides your choice of red or white wine, they will offer a cheese & charcuterie board for $60 a couple.
There’s plenty to do at SIP the rest of the month, even though February only has 28 days this year. On February 24 join them for live music from 7-10 p.m. and on February 25, 6-9 p.m. for a beer and cheese tasting where they partner with Jacked up Brewery, another new Escondido business.
Sip recently launched the “Sip Society Wine Club,” which costs $150 a quarter, for which you get four bottles of wine, entry to the quarterly pick up party and free admission to two wine tastings. Plus 15% off all purchases and 25% off wine flights from the wine tasting menu.
