Flamenco Arana to perform at CCAE October 13

La Academia y la Compañía Flamenco Arana will present “Tierra, Mar y Aire” October 13.

La Academia y la Compañía Flamenco Arana will present “Tierra, Mar y Aire” October 13, at 7 p.m. at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, Center Theater.

Flamenco Arana, led by the charismatic voice of Juan de Dios, takes you on an exploration of the elemental influences of world culture on Spain’s most revered dance form. From the Romani tribes trekking through Asia, to North African peoples crossing the Mediterranean Sea, the sounds and styles of other cultures influenced Flamenco in profound and lasting ways, inflecting the “aire,” the air or flavor of Flamenco today.

Returning after sold-out performances in 2016, Flamenco Arana features special performances by flamenco singer Juan de Dios, bringing to life the passion of the Spanish soul, including performances with the famous bata de cola, the skirt with a tail.

This journey will take you through the stirring dances of the cante jondo (“deep song,”) to the melodies that Spanish sailors brought home from the New World, amplified through the art form of Flamenco.
