First Reach Up, Then Reach In

“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,  rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.  Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;  and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.” (Colossians 2:6-10, NKJV).

What we understand from the Word of God is that our lives, including our relationships with others should extend from our relationship with God.  It is, after all, His presence which transforms us; how we think, how we understand life, our ability to deal with daily stress, and our physical well-being also.  To the level we understand and believe the Word of God, will determine the level of God’s presence and power we receive in times of need.

Jesus said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35, NKJV). A person can only truly come to know God through His presence and His Word.  God’s Word was breathed by the Holy Spirit.  The very DNA of the Bible is “Life more abundantly” (John 10:10), “Peace that passes all understanding” (Philippians 4:7), Healing and deliver us from destruction (Psalm 107:20), and so much more!

The truth is, unless we come into God’s presence day-by-day, we cannot be truly transformed into God’s intended design for us.  The Living Bible says it this way: “And I am sure that God who began the good work within you will keep right on helping you grow in his grace until his task within you is finally finished on that day when Jesus Christ returns.” (Philippians 1:6).

It is from this place of intimacy with God that we may “Reach in” to other believers, and “Reach out” to the world.  If you’ve ever experienced the touch of God upon your life; if you’ve ever sensed His presence powerfully upon you, you know nothing else compares and it will leave you transformed.  When you’ve heard the voice of the Holy Spirit reveal something to you – I don’t mean audibly, that could happen, but I mean deep inside your spirit, it will impact your day as nothing else can.

“Admit your faults to one another and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous man has great power and wonderful results” (James 5:16, TLB.)  When God’s presence impacts and empowers us, we may then pray for each other and expect to be healed.  Unity with each other comes from unity with God.  Imagine what the world would be like if we began our day with God.  Our relationships depend on it.
