Firefighters, police deliver Burn Institute “Camp in a Box”

Two recipients of the “Camp in a Box” from the San Diego Burn Institute via some Escondido firefighters.

Two weeks ago, members of the Escondido Fire Department and Escondido Police Department had the opportunity to assist the Burn Institute with the delivery of their Camp Beyond the Scars 2020 “Camp in a Box.” Three residents of Escondido were scheduled to attend this year’s event, which is normally a weeklong sleepaway summer camp for children between the ages of 8–17 who have experienced a burn injury. Unfortunately, the camp cannot be held in person this year due to the pandemic. However, The Burn Institute provided “Camp in a Box” to go along with an on- line camp experience.

Escondido Firefighters arrived at the homes of the campers with a Police escort to present them with their “Camp in a Box.” After campers received their boxes, they had a chance to tour Fire Engines, Ambulances, and Police cars.

This youngster wasn’t able to attend the Burn Institute’s Camp Beyond the Scars 2020, so these firefighters brought the “Camp in a Box” to him.
