Firefighters knock down two-acre fire on Avocado Avenue

Shortly after noon on Thursday Escondido firefighters answered a brush fire call and quickly dealt with a two-acre blaze on Avocado Avenue.

At 12:13 p.m.  Escondido Fire Department units were dispatched to a reported vegetation fire in the area of Avocado Ave south of Sweetwater Glen.

According to Acting Battalion Chief Jeff Sargis, “The first arriving unit reported two acres of both grass and brush burning uphill towards homes. A second alarm was dispatched and crews made an aggressive fire attack keeping the fire contained to the vegetation. The cause of the fire was determined to be from a bird that made contact with high powered electrical lines.

There were no firefighter or civilian injuries and there was no damage to improved property.
