Saturday night at 9:09 p.m. Escondido Fire units responded to a reported refuse fire in the hanger at Escondido Disposal trash transfer station located at 1044 W Washington Ave in Escondido.
Upon arrival the firefighters found a large pile of trash burning inside the hanger with the fire sprinkler system holding the fire in check. Fire units extinguished the fire and evacuated the smoke to the large open hanger warehouse.
At 9:33 p.m. the fire was declared contained and EDI personnel arrived to move the trash pile to the parking lot for overhaul. There were no injuries or damage to the facility
According to the fire department, “The commercial fire sprinkler system kept this fire from being a much larger and more destructive fire. Although it didn’t extinguish the fire, it held it in check as a small fire until the arrival of Fire Department personnel to fully extinguish the fire.”
