Despite playing a solid game on multiple fronts, the San Pasqual field hockey team wasn’t able to crack the scoreboard and as a result, the Golden Eagles were saddled with difficult 1-0 loss to host Valley Center last Friday afternoon.

For much of second half, SP controlled the play and forced the action but the visitors couldn’t counteract the game’s lone goal which came off the stick of VC standout Alysa McKeever.

This contest had significant implications because had the G. Eagles been able to come out on top, they would have seized first place in Valley North County (League) with a perfect 3-0 record. Instead, as a result of the narrow setback, SP now owns a 2-8-1 overall mark and a 2-1 ledger in league play.

But even in defeat, nothing could take away from the splendid and at times dominant play of senior SP captains Jordan Engdahl and Emilie Bonhivert.

In the physical Engdahl, the G. Eagles had a player who continually broke up Jag plays, was a huge presence in the midfield area and thoroughly impressed with her powerful hits and remarkable long-distance passing.

As for the talented Bonhivert, her deft stickhandling was noteworthy as was her ability to maintain possession which heavily influenced the flow of the game. Moreover, Bonhivert seemed to be all over the field and was constantly in the midst of the action.
