Wednesday, July 25 is the Bates Nut Farm Family Field Trip. Families from all over are invited to enjoy some fresh country air and a day on the farm. The day begins at 10:30 a.m., and includes a tractor hayride, the popular “Nuts for You” tour, along with a picnic lunch, bag of feed for the farm animals and a personal trail mix snack bag.
The tractor hayride will tour the farm, giving families a fun way to soak up some sun and the beautiful scenery. On the “Nuts for You” tour, guests will learn the history of the Bates family and farm, starting in 1921 with Gilbert Bates and his “Walnut Slope Ranch.” They will learn about how the ranch evolved from walnut trees to the retail business it is today, and find out about how nuts get from tree to table. The tour includes a behind the scenes look at the roasting, packaging and storage process at the farm.
Families will enjoy a leisurely picnic lunch under the mulberry trees. On the menu is a barbecue with a cheeseburger or hot dog option, chips, watermelon, cookie and a beverage. After lunch there will be plenty of time to feed the farm animals, and shop at the Bates Nut Farm and Farmer’s Daughter stores. Guests are invited to bring games to play in the grassy park and a blanket and beach chairs for relaxing on in the shade.
The cost is $15 per adult and $12 per child. Reservations are required by July 23, and can be made by calling 760-749-3333 or emailing email@example.com.
