Evelyn Schafer, age 92 of Escondido, California died Saturday, May 14, 2016.
She was born in Glen Cove, NY, to the late John and Jennie Bergano on February 24, 1924.
Mother, homemaker, Brownie and Girl Scout leader, Pink Lady at local hospital, volunteer as a Presidential Election Poll Coordinator, she worked for 40 years into her 80’s at women’s clothing and gift shops, and through her 80’s helped her dear friend Julie Tripp deliver Meals on Wheels.
She remained classy, sassy, stubborn and funny to the end, leaving us with the sweet memory of her pretty painted pink toenails! Her surviving families’ love for her will never fade.
Survivors include her children; Peter (Mick) Mikkelsen, of Escondido, (who was by her side for the last few years of her journey) Karen Werner, Eagle, Idaho, and Jill Soto, Eagle, Idaho, 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and her best friend and older sister Margaret Coppola of Massapequa Park, New York.
Mrs. Schafer was preceded in death by her spouses, Peter Mikkelsen and Jack Schafer, her daughter, Beatrice (Bonnie) Powell and her grandson Michael O’Mahoney.
In honor of their beloved Mother, her children will celebrate and carry the memory of her life and love in each of them as long as they live.
