Escondido’s high schools return to class

Students return to campus Tuesday at Escondido High School. They were welcomed back by a gauntlet of Cougar cheerleaders.

Escondido Union High School District (EUHSD) celebrated the first day of the fall semester on Tuesday, August 10, welcoming back all students for full-time in person instruction.

More than 6,000 students returned to Escondido, Orange Glen, San Pasqual, and Valley High Schools, and Del Lago Academy. Escondido Adult School also began classes on Tuesday.

“Today represented a smooth start to the new school year,” said Supt. Anne Staffieri. “We’re thrilled to see students together again and know that this successful first day was a tribute to all the hard work and preparation by our staff and administration teams.”

Dr. Staffieri added,  “Together with our students and families, we’re looking forward to a wonderful year ahead.”

All EUHSD schools are following California Department of Public Health guidelines. For more information, families can view the updated EUHSD Return to Campus Guide.”

Current California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) guidance includes the following regarding face coverings for students:

• All K-12 students are required to wear a face covering indoors and in school vehicles, including school buses, regardless of vaccination status.

• Face coverings are optional outdoors for anyone in a K-12 school setting.

• Schools must enforce the face covering requirement.

For more information on returning to campus, families can review the district’s Return to Campus Guide and visit the District’s website, www.euhsd.org.
