Founder Mick Dragoo, together with his soulmate Mary opened the doors of Belle Marie Winery in April 2000. It was a labor of love from day one, and has remained so ever since.
When they purchased the land, it was an overgrown, abandoned citrus grove. However, Dragoo envisioned a campus with a Mediterranean feel. He nursed as many of the original trees as he could save, and plotted buildings to raise where the trees were gone.
He built first the winery and tasting room, and later the castle that would help draw visitors from far and wide.
Belle Marie makes over 30 different wines each year. To ensure a consistent supply of the highest quality grapes and the greatest possible diversity of varietals, the winery owns or controls vineyards in the finest growing regions throughout California. From Northern California to Southern California to Baja California, they grow more than 100 different grape varietals in the areas where the soils and microclimates allow each to thrive. This abundance of quality varietals allows us to produce almost any style of wine that is available in any part of the world.
