FINE Magazine has selected Barbara Preston of Escondido as Kitchen and Bath Designer of the Year for 2016. FINE Magazine is published locally in San Diego. It taps into luxury lifestyles and what is trending in the finer pleasures in life. For the past seven years, FINE has covered San Diego’s dining and fine wine; the art scene, travel, fashion, design and the people that help shape the city.
Preston is a long-time Escondido resident who has worked in the design business for over two decades. She is also an artist whose color and scale is finely honed from creating her award winning pieces.
“North County has been a wonderful place to grow and explore,” she said. “The art world in Escondido is so inviting.” Preston said she feels honored to serve as a Public Art Commissioner for her city. She is also one of the founding board members for the Escondido Arts Partnership/Municipal Gallery.
For years Preston traveled extensively for work. One week she might be in London and the next Manhattan and then Bejing. The experiences broadened her design sensibility; opening her mind to fabulous paint combinations and luscious textures. This heightened awareness of color and form can be found in her current designs. “I’m thrilled with the exotic shapes that are being used for back-splashes in kitchens these days–the Moroccan arabesques and the chevrons,” she said.
The Kitchen and Bath Designer of the Year can be found at Home Remodeling Center in San Marcos. Preston is usually playing with customers surrounded by a mess of samples. “If we haven’t pulled out everything, how do we know we’ve found the perfect look?” she said. She always welcomes new opportunities to help her clients create their dream environment.
