At the Lakeside Western Days Parade this past April 23, the Escondido Mounted Posse lost one of its most experienced and beloved members – Diana Cavender. While riding her horse back to its trailer, the animal slipped and fell whipping Cavender’s head into the asphalt. She was pronounced dead a short time later.
One October 15, the Posse is sponsoring a memorial ride to honor and remember Diana Cavender. The function will be held at Rancho Peñasquitos and everyone is invited to attend. The ride will commence at 9 a.m.; there is no preplanned route. Riders just need to be back in the staging area be noon. At that time lunch, sponsored by Fat Ivor’s Rib Rack in Valley Center, will be provided.
This is a fundraiser, and the Mounted Posse is asking that riders contribute a minimum of $25 to Heart Healers Emmanuel Faith. This is an established 501(c)3, so the paid funds qualify as a tax deduction.
Those interested in participation are asked to contact Al Pfeltz (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Suzie VanLancker (email@example.com) and let them know how many people will be attending so they can provide for adequate food.
As part of their response, they will include a map to the staging area. Riders are asked to respond on or before October 8. Money will be collected the day of the event.
