Escondido motorcycle rider dies in collision

An Escondido man died in a motorcycle accident Monday night on 9127 West Lilac Rd. in Valley Center. The San Diego Medical Examiner has identified the man as Michael Smith.
According to California Highway Patrol spokesman Mark Latulippe: Monday at about 6:18 p.m. a 28 year old man from Escondido was riding a 2001 Kawasaki Ninja eastbound on West Lilac Road near Birdsong Drive. For reasons that are still under investigation, the motorcyclist overturned and was ejected from his motorcycle as he traversed a curve in the roadway.
The Kawasaki came to rest within the eastbound lane and the male rider was located on the right shoulder. Fire personnel from the nearby fire station responded and provided medical assistance to the rider. Unfortunately the rider’s injuries were too severe and he died at the scene.
The eastbound lane of West Lilac Road was closed for the on-scene investigation from the time of the collision until about 9:20 p.m.
Impairment is not considered to be a factor in this collision.
The collision remains under investigation.
