Escondido man launches monthly homeless luncheons

An Escondido man was inspired to launch monthly hot meal lunches for the homeless.
It started when Daniel Calderon, who works at a local Papa John’s pizza restaurant, asked permission to put a collection jar on the counter and recruited the assistance of his employer and customers to help fund feeding the homeless at the Escondido Library.
Inspired by his actions, United Methodist Church and Papa John’s San Diego teamed up to support Calderon with his initiative to feed the homeless in Escondido.
On May 18 from noon to 2 p.m. Calderon and volunteers gave out hot food, water bottles, and other donations.
The event went very well. The local Escondido resident and Papa John’s employee, Daniel Calderon, who put on this event with the help of the community and his employer, said there was a large turnout of homeless and families in need. This is part of an ongoing initiative that Calderon is spearheading, repeating each month on the third Friday.
