Escondido Library presents an evening with Holocaust survivor

Escondido Public Library presents, “An Evening with Doris Martin, Holocaust Survivor,” on Tuesday, March 31, at 6:30 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. Ms. Martin, author of the book Kiss Every Step, will recount her and her family’s story of extreme challenge and survival during Nazi occupation. She will discuss her life experience and share her message of tolerance and remembrance at this event. Ms. Martin will be available to sign her book immediately following her talk.

Born in Bedzin, Poland, Martin survived the Ludswigsdorf Concentration Camp where she spent three and a half years, forced to handle and measure explosive powder to build mines for the Nazi war effort. Doris Martin believes that her miraculous survival, and that of her family, is proof that there is still hope to make the world a better place.

She and her husband reside in Escondido, California part of the year, and have a home in Flagstaff, Arizona where they’ve established the Martin- Springer Institute at Northern Arizona University. The Institute’s mission is to apply the lessons of the Holocaust to promote moral courage, altruism, and tolerance. When in California, and as often as possible, Ms. Martin speaks and shares her story with groups, community members and students.

Copies of Kiss Every Step are available in the Library’s circulating collection for check-out and will be available for purchase for $15 at the speaking engagement.

This event is free and open to the public. No registration is required, but early arrival is encouraged as seating may be limited.
