Escondido Legends award four scholarships

The Escondido History Center’s Escondido Legends committee last week announced, after delays due to the pandemic, the first four of ten outstanding seniors from high schools in Escondido that were awarded $1,000 honorariums, provided by Jack Raymond.

The individual presentations, with family members present, were made at the entrance to the Santa Fe Depot museum in Grape Day Park.  Short biographies of the 2020 Escondido Legends and the senior recipients are available at www.escondidohistory.org.

The Escondido Legends committee has begun plans to honor additional 2021 Escondido Legends and 2022 graduates from high schools in Escondido with honorariums in an October or November 2021 ceremony.  The committee is soliciting sponsorships for the program.

Currently, the Santa Fe Depot museum is open to visitors on Saturdays from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.  Plans are being made to increase the number of visitor days. The Escondido History Center needs additional Docents who can spend an afternoon or two a month meeting with visitors.

Volunteers will be provided a written handbook and be coupled with experienced docents.  Call Robin Fox, executive director at 1-760-743-8207 for more information.
