Escondido kids do well at county fair

The 2017 Reserve Grand Champion Market Goat, raised by Sage Drohan of Escondido FFA.

Once again Escondido high school students did well at the San Diego County Fair livestock competition.

In the Market Hog division, the Grand Champion hog was raised by Sierra Takacs of Escondido FFA. The 2017 division champion swine was also raised by Sierra Takacs.

In Market Goats, the Reserve Grand Champion was raised by Sage Drohan of Escondido FFA., who was also division champion.

Steve Green of Armstrong Feed & Supply with Ashley Evans of the Escondido FFA, who raised a swine for the fair and for the entire fair was the symbol of the fair on the home page of the fair’s website.

In Poultry meat pen FFA member Trevor Hon won FFA Champion.

It was a relatively cool day for the 68th annual Junior Livestock Auction, during which time bids were accepted on hogs, goats, rabbits, poultry, turkeys, lambs and beef. More than 300 animals were bid on during the day.

This year the Don Diego Junior Livestock Auction Scholarship Fund was inaugurated. This fund is fed by resale of auction purchases where the purchaser chooses to donate the animal back to generate more revenue for FFA and 4-H’rs. The fund will go to deserving members of both clubs.

We caught up with Escondido’s Johanna Jimenez, 16 and Brandon Fernandez, 15, both FFA members attending Escondido High School, with their market hogs.
