Escondido FFA students go to the fair

This week FFA and 4-H students from all over the county traveled to the San Diego County Fair with their livestock projects. Escondido was well represented among them. These students were from Escondido High School.

promotes agriculture and leadership in middle school, high school, and college students. 629,367 students in 7,757 chapters in all 50 states have adopted the FFA program.

Escondido High School is only one of the chapters that is very dedicated to the FFA department. With two advi­sors, more than

300 students, 75 live­stock exhibitors, and 91 swine, lambs, goats, and steers, it has been a very adventurous year in the EHS FFA de­partment.

Over the past five months, we have been at our school farm twice daily, feeding and caring for our animals, and cleaning our

pens and facilities. Our student livestock interns have been there for many hours of the days help­ing other students take care of their an­imals, teaching them the dynamics of caring for livestock, and getting tack ready for the fair.

is June 27 through July 4. At the fair, we will be competing in market competitions that judge the qualities of our animals. The swine market show will be Tuesday, June 28 at 11 a.m., lambs and goats on Wednesday, June 29 at noon, and beef on

Thursday, June 30 at 11 a.m.

There will also be showmanship competitions that judge how well the exhibitor can handle their animal. The goat showmanship will be Friday, July 1 at 11 a.m., lambs on Friday, July 1 at 1 p.m., and beef on Friday, July 1 at

The livestock auction will be on Saturday, July 2 at 10 a.m. Escondido FFA has worked very hard all year for this one week at the San Diego County Fair, and we would love to get as much support as we can. Future Farmers of America

is an amazing program that teaches students responsibility, time management, and work ethic, so come down during Livestock Week and see Escondido FFA as we spend the week at the fair with our animals!
