Using the ENF Beacon Grant, Escondido Elks Lodge sponsored 26 veterans, two staff members and two volunteers from the VA Hospital to a day at the Padre game on Wednesday June 29.
Ten members of the Escondido Lodge participated in the afternoon event and it was an afternoon of sun and fun. Ellen Berman who works in Physical Medicine and Rehab Service as a Recreation Therapist said the VA staff and veterans had a great time and several veterans came to the Elk members, shook their hands and thanked them for providing this and heard in turn from the Elks how thankful they were for the veterans and their service.
This project was made possible by a grant from the Elks National Foundation, the charitable arm of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Through its Community Investments Program, the Elks National Foundation awards grants to local Elks Lodges to help the Elks strengthen their communities. This year, the Elks National Foundation will award $6.5 million in grants to benefit Elks communities.
