Peggy Weiner, an artist and resident of Escondido, has won the first-place award in the continuingly competitive June 2022 San Diego Watercolor Society (SDWS) Members’ exhibition “Bring Color.” an in-gallery show of the SDWS at 2825 Dewey Road in Liberty Station, San Diego.
Weiner’s painting titled “Pomegranates” was selected by prominent local artist Susan Keith for this honor, out of over 200 entries. Keith said of the painting, “I love the serenity and the vibrancy of the color. I also love the negative space, how they used the white paper, and the use of complementary colors. It is a real standout.”
Peggy Weiner grew up in the suburbs of New York, received her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, and then attended the UCLA School of Interior Design where she began her formal art training. IN 1978 she moved to San Diego where she continued her fine art education at Mesa Collage, the Atheneum School of Art, and the San Diego Watercolor Society.
Weiner has continued studying fine art ever since from professionals throughout the country. She works in all water-based media, often mixing watercolor, acrylic ink, gouache, and watercolor pencil. She has also worked for an award-winning greeting card company to design and paint a watercolor botanical illustration line and has sold and donated numerous works to regional hospitals, including Thornton Hospital in La Jolla. Peggy’s work has been exhibited and won awards in numerous juried shows across the country, and may be seen at the SDWS and other San Diego commercial settings.
