Escondido art glass and mixed media artist James Stone of Stone & Glass has been chosen as this year’s 2018 Handmade Entrepreneur of the Year in Handmade Business magazine’s December issue.
“After more than 30 years as a glassblowing artist, I am honored and humbled to have been selected,” said Stone. “For any artist it is hard to get recognized for one’s work, but it feels like for sculpture artists the challenge is even greater.”
Stone is a full-time artist working out of his environmentally-conscious studio in Escondido. He is best known for his use of color; his process of casting glass hot out of the furnace, directly into the sculpted metal, is unique. His one-of-a-kind technique forges metal and hot cast glass with painted accents. Each piece has a long creation cycle and represents a great deal of time, talent and experience from start to finish.
Not only does Stone design commissioned work for individual clients, but also restaurants, museums and corporate businesses; from sets of drinking glasses to massive vases, bowls, lighting fixtures and sculptures, in a variety of themes and styles.
Stone and Glass is located at 629 W. Grand Ave., Escondido (92025).
