Arellano was transported to Palomar Medical Center, where he later died.
During the course of the investigation, Escondido Police detectives determined that the homicide suspect is Javier Seda. Seda is 18 years old and a resident of Escondido. Detectives discovered that Seda, who is a U.S. citizen, had fled to Mexico after the homicide. Escondido Police detectives worked with The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in the United States and Mexico to share intelligence that led to the apprehension of Seda.
