El Super donates $5,000 to Lincoln Elementary

From left, Escondido Union School District Supt. Dr. Luis Ibarra, Deputy Supt. Leila Sackfield, Lincoln Principal Angel Gotay, El Super Regional Director Rudy Hernandez, El Super Escondido Store Director Monica Aldape, Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Michael Taylor, and 5th-graders Abigayle White and Osman Garcia Yanez are all smiles for the donation presentation.

Officials with new El Super grocery store recently presented Lincoln Elementary with a $5,000 check during a recent assembly at the Escondido Union School District (EUSD) campus.  The Paramount-based grocery chain is opening its first Escondido store in mid-September at West Lincoln Avenue and North Broadway between Hwy 78 and the elementary school.

“We are really excited to be part of the community, to be part of the Lincoln Lion family, and to see Lincoln families at our store,” said Monica Aldape, El Super Escondido store director.

Cheers erupted from hundreds of Lincoln students, who had gathered on the playground for the presentation, when the donation was revealed.

“Thank you so much for your generous support,” Lincoln Principal Angel Gotay said. “We are going to have a wonderful partnership. We are so excited that you moved into our neighborhood.”

Gotay said the donation will support STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) and other enrichment programs at the school, including Lincoln TV.

Supt. Dr. Luis Ibarra, Deputy Supt. Leila Sackfield, and Assistant Supt. of Business Services Michael Taylor also were on hand for the August 24 presentation.

“On behalf of the district, school, teachers, and Board of Education, thank you,” Ibarra said. “We know this is the beginning of a beautiful partnership. There’s so much El Super can do for us, and so many ways we can work together.”
