Escondido High School student, Juan Flores was one of five San Diego County students selected for the Bank of America Student Leaders Program which provides paid summer internships at a local nonprofit.

Juan, who will be a senior at Escondido High School in the fall, was selected as one of four San Diego student leaders.

Juan truly shined among his peers for more than just academics. He’s already demonstrated an extraordinary record of civic engagement. He served as a Youth Attorney at the Escondido Police Department Juvenile Diversion Program, where first time youth offenders are represented by teen attorneys and a jury of their peers.

As a member of Helping Hands Community Service Club he has served more than 100 hours in leadership positions helping with multiple events throughout the community including cleanup efforts at the Escondido Creek.

Juan started his paid internship with Community Housing Works on June 17, and traveled to Washington D.C. for Bank of America’s leadership summit July 8-13 with 300 other Student Leaders from across the country. The national leadership summit was part of their internship program, as well as working at a local nonprofit.

Beyond giving local teens an opportunity to build their resumes and gain workforce experience, Bank of America also provides these interns financial education to be smart with their $15 per hour paycheck.   Demonstrating the importance of paid internships, Glassdoor recently compiled a list of the nation’s “25 Highest Paying Internships,” (www.glassdoor.com/blog/highest-paying-internships-19/) with BofA internships among the best.

One response to “EHS student meets 51st district congressman in D.C.”

  1. Eric Starr says:

The headline is misleading. The congressman that represents Escondido is the Duncan Hunter, 50th district, whom is under indictment and also removed from all Congressional committee’s while awaitng trial. I don’t want to take anything away from a fine student getting the opportunity to meet a Congressman, but don’t loop Juan Vargas in with Duncan Hunter.
