The Escondido Art Association presented their 2019 Scholarship awards at an Awards Ceremony and Reception held at the Artists Gallery on March 9.
Awards were presented to the following outstanding young artists as follows: First Place ($500) to Maycool Loarca, Escondido H.S.; 2nd Place ($300) to Graciela Flores, Escondido H.S.; 3rd Place ($200) to Chelsea Tran, San Pasqual H.S. Also, because of the large number of entries and outstanding quality of the artwork presented this year, additional awards were presented in the following categories: Excellence in Photography ($50) to Austin Stewart-Brown, Escondido Charter H.S.; Honorable Mention ($25) to Paige Zimmerman, Escondido Charter H.S.; and Honorable Mention ($25) to Janna Scroggins, Orange Glen H.S. All of the winners also received a free two-year membership in the EAA.
Judging the competition this year were Suzanne Nicolaisen and Robert Grant, both long-standing members of the EAA, who made their selections from among the sixty-six pieces of artwork representing seven participating Escondido high schools.
Award money to fund the Visual Arts Scholarship Program was provided once again through the sponsorship of Design Moe Kitchen & Bath, Grand Avenue, Escondido. All student artwork will remain on exhibit at the Artists Gallery through the end of March.
