In his comedic and sincere graphic memoir, Gownley focuses on his adolescence. Jimmy is a popular and smart basketball star at his school until he’s bedridden by a terrible case of chicken pox and pneumonia, forcing him to miss a month of school. While Jimmy recovers, he reconnects with his love of drawing and comics, eventually creating and publishing his own book.

The R.E.A.D. Middle Grade Book Club provides young readers the opportunity to commune with others who share their excitement about books. Vibrant discussions, book-themed crafts, and socializing are perfect ways to engage all readers—especially reluctant readers. The next R.E.A.D. Middle Grade Book Club meeting will be on November 20, 2015, from 3:30-4:30 PM in the Turrentine Room. Participants will discuss Doll Bones by Holly Black.
