Double-fatality traffic collision at Broadway and Country Club Drive

On December 20 at approximately 9:51 p.m., Escondido Police and Fire units responded to a traffic collision that occurred at the intersection of Broadway and Country Club Drive in the City of Escondido. Country Club Drive becomes Rincon Ave on the east side of the intersection with Broadway. Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that two vehicles had collided and both drivers did not survive their injuries. Although still in the early stages, preliminary investigation revealed the following details regarding this tragic fatal collision.

A red 1990 Nissan 300ZX was traveling south on Broadway approaching the intersection with Country Club Drive/Rincon Ave, which is on the north end of the city. A silver 2006 Volvo S40 was traveling east on Country Club Drive nearing the intersection with Broadway. Both cars entered the intersection where they collided, sending both vehicles south on Broadway. This intersection is controlled by a traffic signal and what color the lights were for each car is still under investigation.

The red Nissan was driven by a 20-year-old Escondido man who was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision. The silver Volvo was being driven by a 42-year-old Escondido woman. Both drivers died at the scene from their injuries and neither cars had any passengers. Both of the drivers’ identifications are currently being withheld pending family notifications by the Medical Examiner’s Office. It is not currently known if drugs and/or alcohol factored into this collision.

I don’t know if it was the case this time, but there are cars constantly racing up and down Broadway. It needs to be patrolled more regularly. Those racing need to lose their vehicles to stop this from happening.

I to live in that area and constantly hear the cars driving full speed. I never thought it was racing. I read somewhere that the 20 yr old involved was the same person always doing donuts on that road. So terrible.

      • Escondido resident says:

I also do live in the country club area and believe this accident was an absolute tragedy. I also think you shouldn’t be giving out false information over something you “read somewhere” (most likely coming from Facebook).

I live right on the corner of Broadway and Country club lane and have for 5 years, and they race up and down the street at all hours of the day. There is a public park and school there and many car accidents. I have called the police several times about this but they don’t do anything.

  2. Escondido resident says:

That part of Broadway is frequently used for drag racing. There are tons of tire marks from people doing doughnuts there too. Hopefully the police ca crack down on this.

Just off the top of my head I can think of at least 10 fatal accidents north of Escondido High School over the past several years! Totally out of control on Broadway and Country Club. Even off road motorcycles in and around Jesmond Dene Park.
Never see the police in the area! EPD time for some dedicated patrolling! It goes on starting early and goes into the night!

That area is cursed. Very close to where a young lady was kidnapped. And murdered. i had a house near there and swear there was or were ghosts. A native American person whom I know told me she moniters burial grounds there. Been a few deaths there.

    • Doug says:

Dumbest comment I’ve read this year, nice work.

Being a half wit is not the same as being cursed. The ignorant race cars because it’s all they have; they skipped out on education…it’s all that is left for them.

They die and that is not a curse, that is Natural Selection, look it up. The only sad part of the story is that innocent woman was killed, THAT is lame. Now, go tell your “native American” friend she can stop researching burial grounds.

It is very sad,we drove by there tonite,as we do many times each week,on the way to Escondido, and all the flowers show how loved these people were, who died way too young. This is a horrible area, they finally cut down the tree where at least 3 drivers died from crashing into it,there was a motorcycle fatality there a few months ago, several others south of country club,a few a little north,it is a bad place for sure.Judging by the fact that the cars were pushed so far south, obviously the Red nissan hit the Volvo, right on the driver side, but must have been carrying some speed to push them as far as they went.PEOPLE NEED TO SLOW DOWN!!!

    This was an absolute tragedy…
I met friends and acquaintances of the 42-year-old woman. She was a beautiful soul.
My she rest in internal peace.
I hope that in her memory that intersection will now have some type of attention.

Since it seems some of you have personal knowledge of the woman involved,do you have any idea whose fault it was?As far as the womans car got pushed down Broadway,I imagine the 300z was going very fast/

  13. Bob B says:

This intersection is the most dangerous intersection I know of. I am 52 years old and and don’t know if a worse one. I have to cross it every day and cars are moving too fast. It is also true that people seem to race north and south along Broadway and cross the intersection at Country Club/Recon. Even good drivers can find themselves moving too quickly. Something needs to be done to slow traffic in all four directions.

  14. Michelle Price says:

Get rid of the light at that intersection and put in a roundabout…..it’s hard to race thru those!
