The Escondido Democratic Club planned a rally at city hall on Wednesday afternoon, before the city council meeting (by which time this paper will have been printed) followed by a July 14 membership meeting.
The July 14 membership meeting will be held at Park Avenue Community Center, 210 E. Park Ave. Social/snacks start at 10 a.m., with the meeting starting at 10:30 a.m. Visitors are welcome.
The club will host Stephanie Corkran from SanDiego350. They will also have an update from the North County Immigration Task Force on the status of the family separation issue at the border. Mike Plant, a local activist whose letter to his California senators went viral on social media, will speak briefly on the importance of political engagement.
SanDiego350 is a diverse group of volunteers representing 10,000 contacts in the San Diego region who are working to prevent the worst effects of climate change and injustice through education, policy advocacy, and mobilization. Stephanie Corkran, MA, is an anthropologist who works in medical research at UCSD. She is a Coast Guard veteran who enforced environmental law and responded to oil and hazardous material spills, including the Exxon Valdez oil spill. She supports a vision of social justice that considers the needs of all life, human and non-human.
Members who stay after for 30 minutes can help kick off voter outreach initiative as members write postcards to newly registered Escondido Democrats.
