The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office has ruled a suicide in the death of an Escondido woman who disappeared on Thursday and was several days later discovered in her van by San Diego Sheriff’s deputies.
According to a spokesman for the Medial Examiner, “The case is not closed yet.”
For several days the family of Christie Donehue, 43, pleaded for the assistance of the public to find her after she left her home Thursday afternoon, November 29, supposedly for a doctor’s appointment in Oceanside.
She never arrived at the appointment and posters with her face went up all over North County.
The woman had left behind her purse, wallet and two cell phones after she drove away. Her four grown children described her as loving, caring and responsible. “It’s extremely strange,” said one of them after the disappearance.
Her vehicle, a silver van, and her body were found last Thursday across the street from the Hernandez Hideaway restaurant at Del Dios near Lake Hodges. Detectives arrived to investigate the scene and eventually the body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s office.
