Creek Conservancy to have fundraiser Saturday

Escondido Creek Conservancy’s Habitats program serves all 3rd graders from every school in the Escondido Union School District.

The Escondido Creek Conservancy is having an event called “Awesome Adaptations Fundraising Event” on Saturday, November 7 from 4– 5 p.m.
Escondido Creek Conservancy’s Habitats program serves all 3rd graders from every school in the Escondido Union School District. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, they cannot do physical field trips so they have completely overhauled the program for the 2020-21 school year to do simulations through videos – virtual reality programs.
They will be simulating the Elfin Forest’s various habitats through a series of digital videos, including 360 virtual reality with immersive sound. Virtual reality will allow students to, for example, look up and see the oak woodland canopy, look down and see acorns on the ground, hear the hammering of a woodpecker in the distance, and get as close to the real experience as possible. All students in the District already have their own personal iPad, which will allow them to take advantage of this technology and use their tablets like they’re looking through a portal into nature.
Before launching the program with students, the Conservancy has invited donors to an exclusive sneak peek of some of the VR experiences they have produced (with support from the Escondido Community Foundation and Malk Nature Fund).
You’ll get access to a 360-degree view of five habitats: oak woodland, riparian, coastal sage scrub, grassland, and chaparral. You can use your Android or iOS (Apple) smartphone or tablet, or your computer to view these. All proceeds from this event will support the Conservancy’s education department.
