Communication is by definition: the exchange of information between people, e.g. by means of speaking, writing or using a common system of signs or behavior. Good communication can lead to rapport. Rapport by definition: an emotional bond or friendly relationship between people based on mutual liking, trust, and a sense that they understand and share each other’s concerns.
In this column, I want to express my desire to communicate with you; my ultimate goal is to develop a rapport with you. To achieve this, communicating must be two-way.
I invite you to reach out to me, if there are things you’d like to address, or comments you want to make, or something you’d like to bring to the Chamber’s attention. We appreciate those of you who have done this, and my goal again is to develop a rapport with each of you. The Chamber is all about building a thriving business community here in Escondido. We’re about business and all that comes with creating the best environment for a business to succeed right here in Escondido.
Along those lines, I’d like to make sure that every business in Escondido is aware of the City’s small business grant program. Escondido small businesses are eligible to receive up to $15,000 to help make commercial rent payments, maintain payroll, buy protective equipment such as gloves or wipes, and/or to make physical improvements to the business space to help comply with COVID-19 requirements. Details can be found here: www.sdnedc.org/escondidobusinessgrants/ The deadline to apply is Friday, August 28th, which is quickly approaching.
Last week we began the countdown to the November election. There are now 82 days left until the November 3rd Presidential General Election. All active registered voters in California will receive a ballot in the mail.
If you need to vote in-person, polling places will be open for four days, Oct. 31 through Nov. 3. There will be fewer locations than in prior elections, and the location of your assigned poll has most likely changed, so be sure to double check ahead of time.
There is still time to educate yourself on all the choices we must make. The Chamber is finalizing our plan to bring forward some of the candidates and present the issues most relative to Escondido. And there are many. Please check the Chamber’s website for updates and schedules as we finalize our efforts to present the candidates and issues.
