City reopens ‘Escondido Heroes’ banner program to honor military

The City of Escondido announced last week that the order period for Escondido Hero Banners has opened. This marks the second year of the program.

The banners honor men and women who serve, or have served, in the U.S. Armed Forces. The personalized banners will be hung from approximately Memorial Day (mid-May) to Veterans Day (mid- November) in Downtown Escondido along Grand Avenue, 2nd Avenue and Valley Parkway.

Banners include a photo of the hero, his or her name and customizable text that can include their military branch, special awards or honors they received, etc. Banner orders are being taken now through early May. Cost of the banners is $190, which recoups the cost to produce and hang them.

Banners that were ordered in 2015 will be hung again this year from May to November. After two seasons, individuals who ordered banners will be contacted and banners will be returned if desired.

Place your banner order online at www.escondido.org/herobanner.aspx or contact Michelle Geller at mgeller@escondido.org or 760- 839-4587.
