The city of Escondido is asking the public’s assistance to develop a new plan that could bring new results and amenities to Escondido.
Envision South Centre City is a city-sponsored visioning process that invites residents, businesses, and other community members to work together to create a new vision for land use regulation, mobility connections, and quality of life improvements along the South Escondido Boulevard and Centre City Parkway in Escondido.
In 2015, the City of Escondido embarked on a process to create a specific plan for the more established sections of the southwest portion of the city. After a far-reaching public outreach effort in 2015 and 2016, significant progress has been made to develop the South Centre Center Specific Plan. The draft specific plan has been released for public review and the project remains on schedule to be considered by the Planning Commission and City Council in 2017. Up to this point, public outreach has been heavily emphasized in the planning process to ensure that the specific plan reflects the community’s vision for the future. This input was utilized to develop the draft Specific Plan.
The planning area, as it currently exists, is a function of past decisions and policies. If approved, the new Specific Plan would change how new homes and businesses and related structures are built in the area.
According to a press release this week from the city: “We need the community’s help to ensure that Envision South Centre City includes community-supported solutions so that new development can fit into the existing community. Over the next few months, the City is providing community members with a variety of opportunities to participate and help finalize the draft specific plan’s vision to reflect the community’s most important values and commonly-shared priorities. By focusing on the issues and opportunities, we can create new ways to evaluate land use decisions to improve community health, safety, sustainability, and economic prosperity.”
The draft Specific Plan was released for public review and comment on September 12, 2017.
