The Senior Anglers of Escondido Club’s February 12 meeting will feature Captain Joe Cacciola, owner and skipper of the charter vessel Sea Star. For many years, the Sea Star has taken hundreds of kids out fishing, most for their first fishing experience and many from minority and military families.
Cacciola, in partnership with another senior fishing organization, provides his support, financially and supportively by mentoring the kids.
Cacciola will discuss his predictions for the upcoming fishing season in the aftermath of the expected El Nino storms. He is also seeking assistance in his fight to keep the Sea Star moored at Oceanside Harbor.
The senior anglers (men and women over 50 years old) meet regularly at 9:30 a.m. on the second Friday of each month at the Park Avenue Community Center, 210 Park Ave., Escondido. Admission is free.
Club members have lunch afterward, dutch-treat, separate checks, at a local restaurant.
The club sponsors youth trout derbies, picnics, community events, and eight RV campout trips to fresh- and salt-water spots every year.
