This Saturday, April 7, Calvin Christian High School in Escondido will host, for the ninth year in a row, the Calvin Christian Small Schools Invitational track and field meet.
The meet will be held at Escondido High School and is free to spectators. This meet has developed into one of the largest track and field meets designed specifically for small schools in California. The last few years Calvin has hosted as many as 35 schools and up to 1,000 athletes for the one-day event.
The meet has separate divisions for Varsity and Frosh-Soph, giving a great opportunity for those younger athletes to compete with their age group.
The meet is limited to high schools under a 1,000 enrollment. Often times these smaller schools are unable to qualify athletes for the bigger Invitational meets. Many of those meets accept athletes based on their qualifying marks. In this meet, every school is given entries, regardless of the qualifying marks. This allows students from small schools to compete in a large meet that they may otherwise never see.
