Calvin Christian breaks ground on new building

The student body of Calvin Christian School, family, and community members gathered to celebrate the ground breaking of The Heritage Center Chapel & Auditorium on Sept. 25.

“We are behind you, and we support you,” Escondido Mayor Sam Abed said at the groundbreaking ceremony.

The new building will provide the school with a space for choir and band concerts, plays and musicals as well as a dedicated space for weekly chapel meetings for students in grades 6-12.

The project

was made a reality after the completion of a successful capital campaign last year. The entire cost of the $4.7 million building was raised from parents, grandparents, alumni and friends of Calvin Christian School.

This summer, Calvin Christian School received an approved Conditional Use Permit for the building from the city of Escondido.

The high school gym and library have been serving as theaters and chapels for the students. The new space will include 600 padded seats with

a top of the line audio and visual system to ensure a quality facility for the performing arts and weekly chapels at Calvin.

The Heritage Center Chapel & Auditorium will complete the physical master plan for Calvin Christian School.

Calvin Christian School is a preschool and kindergarten through 12th grade Christian school, located at 2000 N. Broadway, Escondido.

For more than 50 years Calvin has been partnering with Christian families and their churches to teach the whole child from a biblical worldview.
