Escondido Public Library invites readers to join the 2nd Tuesday Book Club meeting on October 13,, at 6 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. This month’s selection is Life after Life by Kate Atkinson.
On a cold and snowy night in 1910, Ursula Todd is born, the third child of a wealthy English banker and his wife. She dies before she can draw her first breath. On that same cold and snowy night, Ursula Todd is born, lets out a lusty wail, and embarks upon a life that will be, to say the least, unusual. Author Atkinson resurrects Ursula, whose serial and parallel existences take her through two brutal world wars and well into the 1960s. Each turn in Ursula’s story is, like the ends of her life, subject to revision. What power can one woman exert over the fate of civilization— if only she has the chance?
The 2nd Tuesday Book Club will meet on November 10 with Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter, and on December 8, 2015, to discuss Off Course by Michelle Huneven.
All Library programs are free and sponsored by Friends of the Escondido Public Library. Escondido Public Library is located at 239 South Kalmia Street in downtown Escondido.
