BIG man taken down by medium-sized dog? Yeah, we got that!

Have you ever seen a 225 pound man taken down by an 80 pound Belgian Malinois dog? Most of you probably have not witnessed something like that in person, and hopefully none of you have experienced it yourself.

However, if you come to the Grand Avenue Festival on Sunday, May 19 you’ll be able to witness the stunning agility and strength of these amazing animals when the Escondido Police K-9 Unit does a demonstration at the Chase Bank Lawn (1:30 p.m.) This activity is part of the new “Dogs on the Lawn” event where you can also enter your own furry companion in a variety of contests such as Best Trick, Best Costume, and even the often hilarious Dog/Owner Look-A-Like contest with an array of incredible prizes from Petsmart Escondido (10 a.m.-11 a.m.)! Or if you have trouble teaching Fido how to behave like a good dog, you can learn a variety of training tips from Wonder Dog Training at 2 p.m.

But, perhaps you’re not a dog lover. No worries—we got you covered with some remarkable things happening at the other end of historic Grand Avenue at Juniper Street. Such as the “Creative Kids Corner” where you can paint, play some fun games, participate in a Pizza Walk (11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.), and witness the high-tech wonders of the San Pasqual SuperNURDS Robotic Team!

OK, so maybe dogs and kids aren’t your thing either. Guess what? We got you covered again with “Art in the Garden” taking place in Heritage Garden. This juried art show will feature more than 19 local and regional artists who create their works using a wide variety of mediums from painting and sculpture to hand blown glass, recycled clothing, and photography.

Along with those wonderful attractions, you’ll also be able to just sit and relax at the two Community Stages and witness a wide variety of performers from dance and song to martial arts, gymnastics, and even belly dancing.

Keep in mind you don’t want to just stay in one place because you’ll not only miss trying the eclectic variety of foods available, but you just might miss seeing the SWAT Bearcat tactical vehicle, or doing what we all enjoy…people watching, catching up with friends, and enjoying the beauty of downtown Escondido!
